Domestic electricity in our region is billed under the MPERC Retail Supply Tariff, category LV-1.2 for urban homes. The energy charge rises in blocks: the more units you use in a month, the higher the rate on the units at the top.
Energy charge by slab (urban domestic)
| Monthly units | Energy charge per unit |
|---|---|
| First 50 | ₹4.71 |
| 51–100 | ₹5.67 |
| 101–150 | ₹7.05 |
| Above 150 | ₹7.24 |
A monthly fixed charge, electricity duty and other items are added on top. Your bill shows the exact amounts.
What this means for a typical home
A home using 400 units a month pays the top rate on 250 of them. Those top-slab units are the first to go when rooftop solar starts generating, so each unit you generate saves the highest rate you pay.
How net metering fits in
With an on-grid system, the net meter records what you import from the grid and what you export. You are billed on the difference, which is why the system should be sized to your consumption.
